NATURE OF WORK

An individual in this class supports and maintains both administrative and instructional computers, software, and networks. This work includes the repair of all technology-related equipment. Employee provides on-site assistance in classrooms, media centers, computer labs, and administrative offices. Employee identifies problems and takes appropriate corrective action. Employee installs and upgrades all technology-related equipment in network and stand-alone environments. Typically, this employee will provide first response support from the system level for the maintenance and operation of computers, software, and networks at the building level. Employee may have multiple sites to maintain. This individual is also responsible for designing and implementing local and wide area networks in a school environment, including the installation, maintenance, and operation of these networks and associated hardware and software. The individual will work with the Director of Technology and Technology.

 

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK

  • Under the supervision of the Technology Supervisor, assists with the installation and upgrades of hardware, software, and related peripherals.
  • Ensures the maintenance and repair of all desktops, laptops, and software.
  • Makes recommendations to Technology Supervisor regarding upgrades and replacement of technology-related equipment at all sites.
  • Operates standard and specialized electronics devices in testing and troubleshooting computers and other technology-related equipment.
  • Installs, maintains and monitors the performance of local area networks including network servers, routers, desktops, laptops, printers, and other peripheral devices.
  • Maintains systems, servers, and software, including but not limited to Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft server operating systems, cloud systems, and virtual environments.
  • Maintains documentation regarding network configuration, operating procedures, and service records relating to network hardware and software.
  • Trains technical staff to follow proper operating procedures necessary to maintain the integrity of the network.
  • Participates in long and short-range technology planning.
  • Attends classes, seminars, conferences and reviews professional literature to enhance knowledge of trends and developments related to equipment, operating systems, and local area network systems.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Strong knowledge of computers, VOIP phone systems, wireless networks, and local area networks, including CISCO switches, VLANs, VPNs, and ACLs.
  • Understanding of mechanical, electronic, and computer principles as applied to the repair and maintenance of computers and peripherals.
  • Knowledge of internet security and data privacy principles
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of technology users.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Capable of lifting 50 pounds, climb ladders, and use high lifts.
  • Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license and have dependable transportation.
